Flooding is not a big problem here as we are far enough away from the Wye and have no streams nearby. The ground can be soggy but ‘flood’ has not been an issue for us.

just stumbled across your site its facinating we did a similar thing to you and moved to north east scotland 19 years ago and bought a croft and yes we kept ducks as well we are thinkng of moving to your area but we are a bit concerned about flood risk is it an issue or just over exagerated? certainly your garden looks lovely and hope the pond is full now.

After a balmy sunny clear solstice mid winter day we are now listening to how many roads North and South Islands are closed by snow and ice. Yes we went from 19 degs down to 9 in a matter of 3 days.
When the murk will allow we expect to see the surrounding hills and mountains in their wintry blanket.

The comfy chair now resides in the sitting room, which is only used for Mike's footie viewing these days.

About those slugs. Save some beer from The Trams visits. Put it in a high sided container. Slugs enjoy a beer and tend to binge, No Bull. they have an intoxicated drowning.
Now the eggshells from the ducks can form a barrier layer around a precious plant. Not as good as broken glass but slugs are put off by any sharp edges.
Let me know where to look for you on Google Earth as most of the farm buildings can be plainly seen when zooming in.

From the Upper reaches . Upper Hut NZ.

The approved Humane Society method of duck slaughter is too gruesome to contemplate. It involves a broomhandle and both feet.
